TALENT COMPETITION 2026/2027

Do you have a talent that deserves to be seen, heard and celebrated? This is your opportunity to showcase your abilities, express your creativity and take a step towards a brighter future!

We invite talented young people to participate in our exciting competition, celebrating creativity, culture, music and the extraordinary potential of our youth.

THE GRAND FINALE

The competition will culminate in February 2027 at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), bringing together young talent and opportunities on an exciting platform.

Entries close: 30 December 2026.

INDIGENOUS CHOIR COMPETITION

Celebrating African Heritage Through Music

Who may enter?

  • Indigenous choirs and community singing groups.
  • Youth and adult vocal groups.
  • Solo singers performing indigenous music.
  • Opera singers and other vocalists.
  • Musicians playing indigenous instruments.

Entry requirements

  1. Submit a video of no more than 3 minutes.
  2. Introduce yourself or your choir/group.
  3. State your location and age or general age group.
  4. Briefly explain your musical background.
  5. Proceed directly to your performance.

Purpose: To showcase vocal talent, preserve indigenous music and celebrate South African cultural heritage.

GENIE BABOO SONG COMPETITION

Create the Signature Song for Genie Baboo

Who may enter?

  • Individual singers and songwriters.
  • Bands and music groups.
  • Young people with songwriting and musical talent.

Entry requirements

  1. Create an original song specifically for Genie Baboo.
  2. Include the name “Genie Baboo” in the lyrics.
  3. Communicate the message: “Your magic is within you.”
  4. Choose a musical style that suits your creativity.
  5. Submit a video of no more than 3 minutes.
  6. Introduce yourself, state your location and age or general age group, provide a brief background, and perform your song.
Important: The entry must be relevant to Genie Baboo. An unrelated song does not meet the competition brief.

Purpose: To create a recognisable signature song for Genie Baboo's appearances, events and promotional activities.

Create Our Official Organisational Theme Song

Who may enter?

  • Individual singers and songwriters.
  • Bands, choirs and music groups.
  • Young people with original musical ideas.

Entry requirements

  1. Create an original theme song specifically for Venturing Into Excellence Future Leaders.
  2. Include the exact name “Venturing Into Excellence Future Leaders” in the lyrics.
  3. Reflect our mission: “Youth Off The Streets Into Opportunities.”
  4. Communicate hope, leadership, unity, ambition and opportunities for young people.
  5. Choose any suitable musical style, including rap, gospel, house, rock, traditional African music or musical fusion.
  6. Submit a video of no more than 3 minutes.
  7. Introduce yourself, state your location and age or general age group, provide a brief background, and perform your song.
Important: The song must represent the organisation and its mission. An unrelated song does not meet the competition brief.

Purpose: To create the proposed official theme song for organisational events, videos and promotional material.

Each competition requires its own separate entry. Participants wishing to enter all three must submit three separate performances, each following the relevant competition brief.
